Fate opens its mouth before the body can name it.
Lachesis takes its name from the genus of bushmaster vipers and from the mythological figure who determines each person’s portion of the thread of life. The work does not reproduce a species literally; it brings these zoological and symbolic references together in a single presence.
Deep red, black and dark green move across the face beneath irregular gold traces. The open mouth and exposed fangs interrupt a field of dried stems, pods and seeds, turning the composition into a ceremonial encounter between warning, stillness and latent force.
The plaster mask is finished by hand with professional cosmetic makeup rather than conventional paint. The dried botanical composition and shadow-box frame form an integral part of the artwork.
