Alejandro Muñoz Ossa

Fire is the first tool and the last.
It creates, it destroys, and it leaves everything it touches changed.

Alejandro Muñoz Ossa works with fire. Not as a finish, but as the hand that shapes the work — wood turned and then given to flame, until the grain hardens, blackens, and holds. What survives the burning is what he keeps.

His sculpture returns, again and again, to fire as the element of origin and end: the force that first lit human curiosity and still contains, within it, the power to create and to consume. From that single idea grows a language of forms — disappeared cities and fire landscapes, expanded and standing geometries, each one a fragment of matter testifying to the flame that made it. The work is dark, elemental, and quiet; it carries the memory of time inside the char.

His encounter with Lascaux is a natural one. Where the studio designs from heritage, matter and the meeting of opposites, Muñoz Ossa brings the oldest opposite of all — the fire that is both beginning and ruin. In Huesos, his turning and his flame give the studio's drawing a body: wood submitted to fire, gathered under stone.

Based in Medellín, Muñoz Ossa trained in visual arts in the city. His work has been exhibited in libraries, theatres, alternative spaces and museums, including the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín (MAMM) and the Bienal Internacional de Arte de Medellín (BIAM). He works in parallel across the series Fragmentaria, Paisajes de Fuego and Juguetes Fantasma.
